Sir Timothy Berners-Lee

Academic Accomplishments: In 1976, Berners-Lee graduated form the University of Oxford where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics.

Computer Science Accomplishments: During his time at CERN in 1980, he developed a program called “Enquire”, which could store information in files with connections of other separate files–a method known now as hypertext. In 1989, Berners-Lee proposed a globular hypertext documentation system that would utilize the connectivity of the Internet. He wrote the first web server’s software (in order to have a place to put the files) and a client (which is called a “Browser” nowadays and it displays these files) between October 1990 and the summer of 1991. He finally published the first web site on 20 December 1990, which described what the project is about. Berners-Lee founded the World Wide Web Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994, which was made up of companies that willingly created guides and recommendations to help anyone use the World Wide Web effectively.
